UK number plates fitted before September 1st, 2001, used an older, wider version of the Charles Wright font.Ā Standard character width wasĀ 57mm, compared to the narrower 50mm introduced in September 2001 to make room for the Euro-symbol.Ā If your vehicle was registeredĀ before September 1st, 2001, you can legally use the authentic wider pre-2001 font variant.
